Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo, TX, is seeking a Financial Counselor/Medicaid Navigator to assist patients with Medicaid applications and financial resources. The role involves counseling, documentation, and coordinating with hospital departments to streamline financial assistance.

The position emphasizes accurate eligibility assessment, patient communication, and collaboration with the Business Office to ensure timely financial support for patients and their families.

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visapetitions in accordance with the directive issued by GovernorAbbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required.On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsoreligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employerpetitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the$100,000 fee, if applicable.

Position Description

Performs specialized, complex work to assist in the organizationand implementation of various projects and programs. Work isperformed under supervision within established guidelines withperformance based on overall results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

• Reviews all patient referrals, and applicable work queues toidentify uninsured or underinsured individuals and initiatescommunication to begin coordination of the eligibility applicationprocess.
• Assists patients in person and via phone/videoconference inexploring and applying for Medicaid, financial assistance programsand other resources to help alleviate financial burdens associatedwith healthcare expenses.
• Documents financial counseling sessions, and other relevantactions and communication in the practice management system.
• Effectively communicates with patients to obtain and submitneeded application documents. Follows up on submitted applicationsto ensure decisions are reached and communicated to patients andstaff.
• Verifies insurance coverage, and eligibility.
• Maintains working knowledge of all relevant state and federalprogram requirements; shares information with colleagues andsupervisors. Develops and maintains proactive working relationshipswith Business Office, clinical departments, Social Work and HHSCstaff to coordinate financial processes.
• Other Job duties as assigned to meet the needs of the BusinessOffice.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Patient financial counseling or Medicaid Navigator experiencein a clinic or hospital setting preferred.
