Job summary

Credibly is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and implement major components of our lending origination, servicing, and reporting system. This role combines hands-on development with mentoring and leadership within a microservices, AWS-based stack using Python, React, DynamoDB and MySQL.

You will collaborate with engineering, product, and data science teams to deliver scalable solutions and leverage generative AI to accelerate delivery and innovation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production Python services with deployment ownership.
• Experience designing REST APIs in a microservices architecture.
• Strong AWS experience with ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3 and monitoring.
• Relational data modeling and DynamoDB patterns.
• Automated testing, CI/CD, and Linux troubleshooting.
• Technical leadership delivering end-to-end features.

The Opportunity

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of major components of our lending origination, servicing, and reporting system. This is done through both hands‑on development and mentoring / leading more junior members of the team. Our technology is a microservices architecture purpose‑built for AWS cloud on an open‑source stack using Python, React, DynamoDB, MySQL, Linux, Docker, Large Language Models, and Generative AI.

What You Will Do

• Work fully embedded in a development team, including attending stand‑up meetings and substantially overlapping your work day with Eastern time zone hours (minimum overlap of 9am to 1pm ET).
• Work with the engineering, product, and data science teams and business stakeholders to create, innovate, and implement effective solutions that support online lending and servicing.
• Lead the design and development of new software products and major enhancements to existing software for clients and business partners.
• Analyze, vet, and review code that supports standard database and software solutions on an enterprise software platform hosted on AWS.
• Leverage generative AI tools and LLMs to accelerate development, improve productivity, and build innovative product features.

Who You Are

• 5+ years building and running production Python services, including ownership through deployment, monitoring, and production incidents.
• 5+ years designing and consuming REST APIs in a microservices architecture, with clear reasoning about service boundaries, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS beyond "it runs there": containerized compute (ECS/EKS or Lambda), queues and messaging (SQS/SNS), S3, and CloudWatch or equivalent observability tooling.
• Relational data modeling and query tuning in MySQL, plus practical DynamoDB access‑pattern design.
• Automated testing (pytest or similar), CI/CD pipelines, incremental rollout, and troubleshooting on Linux.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: has led a multi‑engineer effort end to end, authored the design, reviewed others' work, and grown less experienced engineers.

What Makes You Special

• Event‑driven and asynchronous architectures (SQS/SNS, Airflow or similar orchestration).
• FastAPI and SQLAlchemy ORM.
• Docker, and infrastructure as code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• React or another modern frontend framework.
• Building with LLMs and GenAI: prompt design, evaluation, RAG or agentic workflows, and working effectively alongside AI coding agents.
• Financial services applications and regulated data, especially lending or payments.
• Security practices for web applications: authn/authz, OWASP basics, secrets handling.
