Sr. Renewables Financial Accountant, Energy Storage

Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA)

This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture and IPP with strong private equity backing, focused on developing and executing dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. They are at the forefront of the industry, having accumulated over 9GW of projects in a relatively short period, and are currently in an accelerated expansion phase.

The Sr. Renewables Financial Accountant (Corporate and Projects) will work with the Accounting Leadership Team to drive project-based accounting initiatives across the organization. Key interactions include Project Finance, FP&A Manager, and the general Accounting Team. Responsibilities involve preparing GAAP financial statements, managing financial audits, and handling business-critical project-based accounting such as Service Contracts, EPC, Construction, and Lease Accounting, supporting a growing nationwide renewables portfolio. Experience with Lease Accounting (ASC842) and reviewing project contracts for revenue recognition (ASC606) is REQUIRED.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ownership of project-based financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, & yearly) and journal entries involving multi-entity structures.
• Collaborate with EPC Project Managers to assess and track project costs and performance against development milestones, reviewing EPC project expenses to ensure operational continuity.
• Lead capitalization initiatives, including accounting for leases, contracts, debts, expenses, accruals, and reconciliations, in coordination with Project Development and EPC Teams.
• Develop project-based financial reporting packages to ensure contract accounting compliance, including loan draw requests, debt service coverage (DSCR), cost variance analysis, and cash flow forecasts.
• Lead revenue recognition assessments based on ASC842 (Lease Accounting) and ASC606 (Revenue Recognition).

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5+ years of corporate finance and accounting experience with GAAP principles.
• Must have experience with project-based accounting, including Project Development, EPC, Construction, Service Contracts, and Leases.
• CPA or CMA certification is HIGHLY PREFERRED.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar financial software.
• Advanced MS Excel skills, including macros/VBA, data queries, and pivot tables.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, reports, reconciliations, accruals, deposits, contracts, and capitalization.
• Solid knowledge of debt agreements and DSCR calculations.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex financial concepts clearly.
• Experience supporting financial reporting for EPC or Construction operations.
• Experience with renewable projects (solar, wind, battery storage) is HIGHLY DESIRABLE but not required.
• Understanding of energy market tariffs and incentives (e.g., WECC, PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO) is beneficial but NOT required.
