Job summary

WLF, a leading construction and transportation company, seeks a Sr. Project Accountant to partner with the operations team. This full-time role reports to the head of Finance & Accounting and requires extensive Procore experience.

You will monitor budgets, track job costs, manage billings, handle change orders, and sustain project financial records. A Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of construction accounting are expected; Excel and Sage Intacct proficiency are a must.

Qualifications

• Construction accounting knowledge and experience required.
• Minimum of five years of related experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in accounting or finance.
• Procore proficiency required; Excel proficiency mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Monitor project budgets, costs, and forecasts for accuracy.
• Track job costs (labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors) and analyze variances.
• Prepare and manage client billings, including progress billing and retainage.
• Oversee change orders with proper coding and updated estimates.
• Maintain records in the accounting system (Sage Intacct).
• Support WIP reporting and revenue recognition.
• Reconcile project accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Coordinate with Project Managers on budgets, change orders, and cost projections.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes related to projects.
• Ensure compliance with contract terms and financial controls.
• Prepare financial reports for management review.

Reporting to the head of Finance & Accounting and working closely with our owners, this newly created role is perfect for someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and is looking to make an impact on new processes and procedures. Extensive experience and a high level of proficiency with Procore (power user/admin level user) is required.

What You’ll Do:

• Monitor project budgets, costs, and forecasts to ensure financial accuracy
• Track job costs (labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors) and analyze variances
• Prepare and manage client billings, including progress billing and retainage
• Oversee all pending and approved change orders, ensuring proper coding of commitments, maintaining budget accuracy, and proactively updating project estimates
• Maintain accurate records in the accounting system (e.g., Sage Intacct)
• Support Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and revenue recognition
• Reconcile project accounts and investigate discrepancies
• Coordinate with Project Managers on budgets, change orders, and cost projections
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes related to projects
• Ensure compliance with contract terms and financial controls
• Prepare financial reports for management review

Who You Are:

• Knowledgeable about all aspects of construction accounting
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
• Minimum of five years of related experience
• Flexible and adaptable, able to work across business functions
• Outstanding team player with good interpersonal skills
• High level of experience with and proficiency in Procore required
• Proficiency in Excel required, and experience with Sage Intaact a plus
