Ladders is seeking a Sr. Principal Software and AI Engineer to join a leading Pharmaceuticals & Biotech client. You will design and deliver AI-enabled software to support clinical trial execution in a highly regulated environment.

You will lead architecture decisions, collaborate with clinical, technology, and compliance teams, and ensure reliability, governance, and data protection while advancing AI-native engineering practices. The role is remote within the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years in a relevant field.
• Master’s degree with 5+ years preferred.
• PhD with 3+ years considered advantageous.

For our client, we are seeking a Sr. Principal Software and AI Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech space.

This role will shape the design and delivery of AI-enabled software that supports clinical trial execution in a highly regulated environment.

You will work closely with clinical, technology, and compliance partners to integrate advanced AI capabilities into critical workflows while maintaining strong standards for reliability, governance, and data protection.

The position also calls for technical leadership in architecture decisions, model selection, and the ongoing evolution of AI-native engineering practices.

Location: Remote

Compensation: $137,400 – $182,400 annually

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and deploy AI-powered applications for clinical trial execution


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI into clinical workflows


• Define scalable architecture for multi-agent orchestration and LLMOps lifecycle


• Establish best practices for AI-native development and continuous performance monitoring


• Assess and make decisions on frontier models and agent frameworks


• Ensure compliance with GxP, data privacy, and responsible AI standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 7+ years, Master's with 5+ years, or PhD with 3+ years in a relevant field


• 7+ years of software and AI/ML engineering experience, preferably in a tech lead or principal engineer role


• Proven track record of shipping production-grade AI applications with measurable impact in a regulated environment


• Deep backend expertise in Python and/or .NET, with experience in enterprise application architecture


• Hands-on experience with relational, search, and graph databases like PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch
