Job summary

Central Transport is seeking an outbound operations supervisor in Chicago Ridge, IL to oversee a 250-door freight facility and manage up to 30 drivers and dock staff. You will drive production and safety standards while coordinating loads and dock activities.

Ideal candidates have transportation or cross-docking experience, strong leadership, and a tech-forward mindset. Shift is 4:00pm–2:00am, Monday–Friday, with a salary up to $75,000 plus a 10% quarterly bonus.

Qualifications

• Experience in transportation, cross docking, or shipping/receiving environments.
• Familiarity with customs and cross-border transportation is a plus.
• Strong leadership qualities and people management skills.
• Tech-savvy with ability to leverage systems to optimize operations.
• Must communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Degree preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee outbound operations for a 250-door freight facility.
• Manage loading, forklift traffic, and palletized freight flow.
• Supervise up to 30 local LTL drivers and dock personnel.
• Use independent judgment to build loads based on labor and freight levels.
• Monitor cube and weight to ensure proper trailer loading.
• Provide coaching and accountability to the driver and dock team.

Ideal Candidate Requirements:

• Experience in a transportation, cross docking, or shipping and receiving environment (preferably within the LTL industry)
• Familiar with customs and cross-border transportation
• Strong leadership qualities
• Desire to surround customer with excellence in service
• High aptitude for technology
• The ability to multi-task while being detail oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• An Associates or Bachelor’s Degree, preferred but not required

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee outbound operations within a 250-door freight facility for your designated section of the dock.
• This includes the process of loading, managing forklift traffic, and overseeing proper picking/sortation of palletized freight.
• Manage up to 30 local LTL drivers and dock personnel to achieve a designated production schedule.
• Utilizing your independent judgement to build loads based on available labor and freight levels.
• Ensure proper load of carriers by monitoring the cube and weight of trailers
• Provide leadership and accountability to a team of drivers, dock workers and dock hand.
• Monitor dock production, ensuring facility Key Performance Indicator goals are met and/or exceeded.
• Monitor hours and overtime.
• Maintain a safe work environment compliant with state and federal DOT/OSHA standards.
• Ensure company operational model compliance.
• Support a culture of excellence in quality of product to internal and external customers
