Description Of Work

This position is for an Engineer II that will serve as the Senior Assistant Division Traffic Engineer. This position will be located at the Division Seven office in Greensboro, NC. This position will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the Division 7 traffic signals group, including leading subordinate staff and applying engineering principles in the operation and maintenance of traffic signals. The key responsibilities will include but not be limited to conducting traffic investigations, making recommendations, timing traffic signals, assist the Division Traffic Engineer in the operation and management of the traffic services department, and securing funding for safety and operational improvements.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience in planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with minimal supervision
  • Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex projects
  • Experience including office software and drafting software
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in written and verbal form, establishing and maintaining positive working relationships and Customer Service experience related to resolving problems
  • Experience in tracking cost expenditures in various accounting systems on multiple large projects

Additional Expectations

Ability to work in extreme temperatures and uneven terrain conditions for extended periods of time while performing duties. Ability to work in emergency situations, inclement weather, and special events. Have proficiency with various computer applications including Windows, email, internet, and Office products. Ability to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, personnel, and the general public. Selected candidate will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification

May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
