Job description

Job Opportunity with NCDOT

This position offers full State Benefits, competitive salaries, and numerous career development opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting the Division Traffic Engineer with traffic engineering studies, safety projects, and investigations into HSIP from fatalities.
  2. Supporting signal projects and studies alongside the Deputy Traffic Engineer.
  3. Serving as a liaison between the Division Traffic Engineer and Traffic Services.
  4. Supervising the Division Traffic Services Unit and establishing safety programs.
  5. Coordinating traffic control devices with Maintenance and Construction units for safe traffic flow.
  6. Conducting traffic studies and overseeing the installation and inspection of traffic control devices.
  7. Managing the Division LOGO and TODS Program and assisting with safety projects and maintenance programs.
  8. Preparing signal designs and analyzing traffic data to optimize signal timing systems.
  9. Overseeing the operation and budgeting of Traffic Services Units, including setting standards and monitoring work progress.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Experience in project planning, development, and completion with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering concepts and practices.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex problems.
  • Experience working collaboratively in teams.
  • Reviewing plans for compliance with traffic and engineering standards.

Additional requirements include:

  • Professional engineering skills for conducting safety and traffic studies.
  • Knowledge of MUTCD preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good working relationships.
  • Safety toe shoes are required.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience, with possible professional engineer registration in NC.
