The Senior Accounting Manager is a key leadership role responsible for the overall management of the accounting and financial reporting functions of Childhelp. The Senior Accounting Manager will ensure the integrity of financial information and maintain strong internal controls to support the organization's mission. The Senior Accounting Manager reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will supervise the accounting team.

Responsibilities
  1. Financial Leadership and Management:
  • Direct and oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, fixed assets, grants accounting, and reconciliations.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare financial statements, reports, and analyses for the CFO and other senior leaders.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and support to the CFO and other senior leaders.
  • Respond to inquiries from the CFO and other finance and organization-wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Assist the CFO with the budget process.
    • Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
    • Develop and maintain financial and cash forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Compliance and Audit:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as donor restrictions and grant requirements.
    • Prepare schedules for the annual IRS 990 filing.
    • Work with the CFO to ensure clean audits.
    • Coordinate and manage external audits, review workpapers, and ensure financial record accuracy.
    • Review reconciliations monthly to verify accuracy.
    • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
  • Team Management:
    • Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support professional development.
    • Collaborate with other finance team members to support department goals.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the department.
    Requirements

    Education & Experience, Knowledge/Understanding:

    • BA/Bs in Business with an emphasis in accounting.
    • Minimum of 15 years experience in financial reporting and general ledger management.

    Skills:

    • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills, capable of effectively communicating with diverse populations.
    • Proficient in PC use, Windows environment, Internet, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

    Abilities:

    • Intermediate analytical skills to solve problems, collect and synthesize relevant data, and identify solutions.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.

    Physical Demands:

    • Frequent standing, seeing, hearing, speaking; occasional sitting, walking, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing, kneeling, pushing/pulling.
