Responsibilities

  • Oversee the statewide check writing program with managers and regional offices.
  • Serve as working supervisor for Springfield staff.
  • Establish and maintain Check Writing training for Springfield staff.
  • Coordinate with agency personnel on processing, procedures, and goals.
  • Establish and maintain public relations and communicate with officials, auditors, retailers, players, and staff to clarify operations.
  • Serve as alternate to the Claims Manager in their absence.
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of duties.

Position Overview

The Illinois Lottery is hiring a Springfield Claims Supervisor in the Finance Division that will oversee the processing of claims and payment of Lottery winners. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a very fast paced environment. Essential Functions
  • As the Springfield Claims Supervisor, manages and coordinates with managers and regional offices on the state‑wide check writing program.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Establishes and maintains Check Writing training program for Springfield regional office staff
  • Confers with other administrative and management personnel within the Agency regarding claims processing, operational procedures, and goal achievements.
  • Establishes and maintains public relations and communicates effectively with public, government officials, auditors, other agencies, Lottery retailers, players, winners, and other lottery management staff to aid with interrelated issues and clarify Section and Division operational matters.
  • Serves as alternate to the Claims Manager in their absence.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with coursework in business administration and accounting.
  • Requires two (2) years professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budget planning and control or public accounting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing procedures.
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines, and equipment.
  • Prefers intermediate level of proficiency utilizing Microsoft Excel.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience preparing comprehensive accounting reports.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience supervising a staff of subordinates engaged in general accounting, budgeting, or external auditing activities.
  • Ability to determine violations and noncompliance with the law and to detect and explain significant irregularities.
  • Ability to review detailed work including written or numerical data and to make calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to evaluate more difficult accounting problems and to analyze and interpret more complex accounting records.
  • Ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships and manage sensitive issues tactfully.
