Position Overview

The Accountant position is at our Springfield, IL office located at 524 S. 2nd Street Springfield, IL. This position reports to the Fiscal Supervisor in the Fiscal Department. Essential Functions
  • Establishes and maintains financial records/ledgers, primarily for Fund 251 (DOL Special State Trust Fund) using standard automated and manual systems for departmental programs.
  • Work with Advanced Accountant to maintain and reconcile financial transactions between SharePoint and the case management system with SAP.
  • Assists with the Department’s Accounts Receivables and collection records.
  • Serves as back up for the other accounting functions which are performed in Federal Reporting and Grants, including but not limited to reconciliations, maintaining ledgers, and other accounting functions at the same or lower level as assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs regular audits to ensure financial records and transactions are accurate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of professional experience with accounts receivable functions.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience with accounting principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience with accounting reports.
  • One (1) year experience with Electronic System Application and Products such as (SAP) including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System.
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)). Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. This job may require a good deal of walking or standing, or involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
