Job summary

VNA HOSPICE seeks a Spiritual Bereavement Coordinator to lead spiritual and bereavement care for patients, families, staff, and volunteers across home and inpatient settings. You will assess needs, document care plans, and collaborate with local clergy and pastoral care staff to ensure compassionate, ethical support.

The role includes supervising volunteers, developing policies, and offering bereavement workshops.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in a related field (Thanatology, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Theology, Divinity, Philosophy, or similar).
• Minimum of two years' experience in spiritual counseling and grief/bereavement work.
• Two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
• Knowledge of comparative religion or interfaith contexts.
• Ordained or credibly credentialed as a chaplain or in palliative care.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and document spiritual and bereavement care for patients and families.
• Provide clinical notes and care plans for each patient/family contact.
• Coordinate and supervise spiritual care services in home and inpatient settings with local clergy and hospital pastoral care staff.
• Interview, screen, train, and supervise volunteers for spiritual care and bereavement programs.
• Ensure policies include spiritual and bereavement considerations and update them as needed.
• Offer workshops on bereavement and spirituality to volunteers at least twice yearly.
• Coordinate bereavement communications for up to one year after death (13 months).
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee Grief Recovery Support Groups for adults.
