This position reports to and is evaluated by the Special Education Supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • A current Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association (ASHA) OR
  • Michigan Teaching Certificate with Speech and Language Impaired Endorsement
  • Valid State of Michigan Speech‑Language Pathologist license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Expertise and experience working in an urban school setting
Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.

Terms of Employment

Salary benefits shall be paid in accordance with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Special Education Supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.

Position Description

The Speech Language Pathologist will provide direct services to scholars in the area of expressive and receptive language, as well as support the IEP and evaluation processes in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) and the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate students to determine eligibility for special education and/or related services.
  • Interpret and explain evaluation findings accurately to parents and school staff.
  • Implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
  • Develop and support IEP goals and objectives through both direct services and collaboration/consultation.
  • Evaluate student progress; modify goals and objectives as needed.
  • Create and facilitate an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the students’ abilities.
  • Collaborate with families, staff, and students concerning the nature of communication disorders and best practices to support students.
  • Collaborate with parents, school staff and other professionals and agencies to develop/implement behavior management and other intervention strategies.
  • Participate on problem‑solving teams to support the MTSS process as needed.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, students, and families.
  • Participate in school and district professional development programs and staff meetings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of special education rules and regulations and maintain compliance with IDEA and MARSE.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator, Special Education Supervisor, and/or Chief Academic Officer.
