Job summary

Wayne County Schools Employment Network is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to evaluate and support students, develop IEPs, and collaborate with families and staff in an urban public school setting.

The role requires a Master's in Speech-Language Pathology, ASHA CCC-SLP, and Michigan SLP licensure, with CFY considered for CCC-SLP. Experience in urban districts is a plus; on-site work in Michigan.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
• ASHA CCC-SLP certification.
• Michigan SLP license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
• CFY with supervision leading to CCC-SLP considered.
• Michigan Teaching Certificate with SB endorsement or Temporary Teaching Authorization with SB endorsement.
• Experience in an urban public school district is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate students to determine eligibility for special education and conduct evaluations using multiple data sources.
• Interpret evaluation findings for parents and school staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution;
• A current Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech/Language/Hearing Association (ASHA).
• A valid State of Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Health Care Services.
• CFY with supervision leading to CCC-SLP will be considered
• Teacher of the Speech/Language Impaired must provide evidence of a current Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Speech/Language Pathology (SB), or a Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization with an endorsement in Speech/Language Pathology (SB).
• Expertise and experience working in an urban public school district is a plus.Previous work experience desired but not required.

Essential Functions

• Evaluate students to determine eligibility for special education. Select and implement appropriate evaluation procedures (including classroom observation, case history information, standardized tests, and informal tests) as determined by student's abilities.
• Interpret evaluation findings accurately to parents and school staff.
• Implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). Develop and modify SMART therapy goals and objectives including connections to Common Core State Standards, materials and activities to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students. Evaluate student progress; modify goals and objectives as needed.
• Create and maintain an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the abilities of the students.
• Counsel parents, teachers and students concerning the nature/effect/alleviation/elimination of communication disorders.
• Collaborate with parents, school staff and other professionals and agencies to develop/implement behavior management and other intervention strategies. Participate on Resource Coordinating Teams (RCTs) and contribute to Response to Intervention (RtI) efforts.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, students, and parents. Participate in school and district in-service training programs. Plan and present workshops and in-service training programs.
• Demonstrate adequate knowledge of special education rules and regulations and maintain compliance.
• Initiate, participate in and follow through on MET/IEP procedures as appropriate.
• Attend school staff meetings and discipline-specific staff meetings.
• Maintain accurate, compete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation; submit same at designated times. Records include, but are not limited to, MET/IEP packets, MISTAR Service Tracker Daily and Monthly Notes, student progress reports, statistical reports, compliance monitoring reports, Medicaid reports.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
