Job summary

Desert Trails Elementary School in Paradise Valley Unified School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant/SPED Personal Care RN to support a student with special needs and ensure IEP requirements are followed. The role provides nursing care under the Special Education Department per the care plan.

The position is 9 months, 6.5 hours per day, with dates from 8/3/2026 to 5/27/2027. An active RN license, CPR, and school nurse certification are required or pursued within three years;

Qualifications

• Current professional nursing license.
• CPR certification current.
• Arizona Nursing Certification or National School Nurse Certification; to be acquired within three years of hire.
• Criminal background clearance and DPS fingerprint clearance required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Minimum two years of nursing experience in pediatric/public nursing or emergency settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the care of the student according to the care plan.
• Maintain health and development information for students.
• Support nursing care plans with goals and interventions.
• Manage student behavior to provide a safe learning environment.
• Document nursing care via computer program.
• Participate in meetings (IEPs, 504s, etc.) to share health data.
• Report health and safety status to administrators and agencies.
• Respond to emergencies and refer to appropriate personnel.
