Job description

Our Client, a Medical Research company, is looking for a Specimen Technician for their Gaithersburg, MD location.

Responsibilities:

1. The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
2. This position requires a data entry background.
3. Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
4. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
5. The role requires good organization skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to client tests.
6. The SPT I must understand and adapt to compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change frequently.
7. This position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction.
8. Flexibility is essential due to daily changes and demands from customers.
9. The department operates in a production environment with emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and timely completion.
10. The position requires a data background with the ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
11. Work is performed in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.
12. The employee must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
13. Effective communication with all staff levels is required.
14. Adherence to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures is mandatory.
15. Maintain a neat and clean work area.
16. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive work environment.
17. Show flexibility and adaptability to change.

Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Basic computer skills; knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing is preferred.
3. No experience required; prior laboratory experience is a plus.
4. A medical background, including familiarity with medical terminology relevant to clinical laboratories, is preferred.
5. Previous hospital laboratory experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
6. Experience in a production environment is preferred.
