Our Client, a Medical Research company, is looking for a Specimen Technician for their Gaithersburg, MD location.
Responsibilities:
- The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
- This position requires a data entry background.
- Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
- The role requires good organization skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to client tests.
- The SPT I must understand and adapt to compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change frequently.
- This position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction.
- Flexibility is essential due to daily changes and demands from customers.
- The department operates in a production environment with emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and timely completion.
- The position requires a data background with the ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Work is performed in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.
- The employee must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Effective communication with all staff levels is required.
- Adherence to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures is mandatory.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive work environment.
- Show flexibility and adaptability to change.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills; knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing is preferred.
- No experience required; prior laboratory experience is a plus.
- A medical background, including familiarity with medical terminology relevant to clinical laboratories, is preferred.
- Previous hospital laboratory experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Experience in a production environment is preferred.
