Summary of Job Duties: The Laboratory Procedure Technician in the Gross Room assists pathologists and pathology assistants with the preparation and gross examination of surgical specimens.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, OR 60 credit hours including 24 hours in Medical Technology or Science Courses (6 Biology, 6 Chemistry)
  • Ability to work on weekends and rotate on-call duties

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience as a grossing tech or assistant
  • Certification by ASCP or equivalent
  • Experience in a hospital setting
  • EPIC training

Additional Information:

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing specimen acceptability
  • Accessioning and labeling specimens
  • Dictating gross descriptions
  • Performing specimen and frozen section preparation
  • Receiving and releasing bodies in the morgue
  • Maintaining cleanliness of cryostats
  • Performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Ensuring proper processing and storage of specimens
  • General lab duties and maintaining a safe environment
