Qualifications

  • Preferred: Previous reference lab experience, DOT/IOTA Certification.

Summary of Job Duties: The Lab Support Technician II in the Reference Lab provides intermediate-level technical and operational support to ensure the accurate and timely processing, packaging, and shipment of laboratory specimens to outside reference laboratories.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Formal Educational Equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Lab Tech or Assistant in a Clinical Laboratory or 60 hours of completed higher education in a health sciences programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous reference lab experience
  • DOT/IOTA Certification


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • This position receives specimens from all sources and verifies that each specimen has proper collection and labeling.
  • This position verifies that each test is received in the correct tube type.
  • This position sorts all specimens and place them in the proper racks to be received.
  • This position will load racks on the appropriate automation line to be received in and tested.
  • This position will scan specimens into the EPIC system and re-label the specimens as needed.
  • This position will enter order into EPIC through requisition entry for all outside institutions.
  • This position will process add-on test.
  • This position answers phone calls concerning results, faxing reports, specimen collection and ordering test.
  • This position processes timed urine specimens.
  • This position reconciles packing list.
  • This position process Reference, VA and ACH specimens as needed.
  • This position will process mail-in specimens.
  • This position will scan requisitions received with labs from institutional accounts into EPIC.
  • This positions schedule could change due to staffing issues with a two weeks notice.
  • This position will perform other duties as assigned.

Lead Tech Responsibilities:

  • Assure that all tasks are completed for shift.
  • Assign tasks as needed.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Address all patient/specimen problems as needed.
  • Consult with the Laboratory Supervisor or Pathologist for guidance when handling problem situations.
  • Fill out all Safety Intelligence reports and deliver to the Core Lab Manager.
  • Communicate all pertinent information to the oncoming senior tech and Supervisor.
  • Assist with training new LSTs including signing off on competencies.
  • This position is required to work a fluid schedule when needed.
