Description/Comment: The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
Job Complexity and Skills: The role is complex and requires good organization skills, the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to client-ordered tests, and compliance regulations that may change daily. Flexibility is essential due to frequent changes and diverse customer demands.
Work Environment and Schedule: The majority of work is on the night shift, with requirements for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime based on staffing needs. The department emphasizes productivity and quality standards in a production environment.
Physical and Communication Skills: Ability to sit or stand for long periods, effective communication across all staff levels, adherence to safety and compliance policies, and maintaining a clean workspace are required. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to foster a positive environment.
Educational and Experience Requirements: HS diploma or equivalent is required. Basic computer skills are necessary, with preferred knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing. No experience is required, but prior laboratory or medical background experience is advantageous.
