Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a clinical-support staff member to perform pre-analytical processes and prepare specimens for testing, with a focus on accurate documentation and efficient handling of specimens for testing.

The role supports patient care by ensuring proper labeling, data entry, and coordination with physician offices and reference labs, while contributing to timely billing and service quality.

Qualifications

• Education required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience preferred: At least one year of medical laboratory, clerical or secretarial experience.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens from multiple locations and documents the patient and required lab test order.
• Verifies that the specimen is properly labeled with two patient identifiers, date and time of collection, initials of person obtaining the sample.
• Attaches printed labels to specimens from physician offices if necessary.
• Completes the order, producing labels and essential documentation.
• Verifies insurance information and follows through with Hospital registration and/or physician practices to ensure appropriate and efficient billing.
• Investigates test requisitions with missing information from physician office or off-sites.
• Prepares specimens for shipments to reference laboratories and interacts with reference labs, physician offices, clinicians, and others to provide superior service.
• Runs reports and addresses data to improve lab efficiency and physician satisfaction.
