Job summary

University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority is seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Tech in Surgical Pathology (Finance) to manage specimen intake, labeling verification, and data entry in the Laboratory Information System. The role involves basic instrument maintenance and clerical duties, with daily interaction with pathologists and clinical staff.

Hours are 100% FTE, Monday through Friday, 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with potential variations based on department needs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some post-secondary education in a healthcare or related science field.
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification or equivalent preferred.
  • 6 months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check labeling, enter tests into Laboratory Information System, process specimens, and load onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station, technologist, or storage area.
  • Perform basic instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Education

100% FTE, Monday thru Friday 230pm-11pm. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Pay:
  • This position may be eligible for a $2,500 sign-on bonus (pro-rated based on FTE).

We are seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Tech - Surgical Pathology to:
  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check for correct labeling, enter tests into Laboratory Information System, process specimens, and load them onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station, technologist, or storage area.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent Required

Some post-secondary education in a healthcare or a related science field that may include course work in Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician or Medical Laboratory Scientist degree/certification Preferred

Work Experience

6 months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry role Required

1 year healthcare or lab related work experience Preferred

Licenses & Certifications

Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent Preferred
