Job summary

UW Health is seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Tech for the Clinical Labs to handle specimen intake, labeling checks, LIS data entry, and specimen processing. The role involves basic instrument maintenance and clerical duties, with daily interaction with pathologists, physicians, technologists and nursing staff.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and healthcare-related coursework; six months of related experience is required with preferred lab or healthcare exposure.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
• Some post-secondary education in a healthcare or a related science field that may include course work in Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician or Medical Laboratory Scientist degree/certification (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check for correct labeling, enter tests into Laboratory Information System, process specimens, and load them onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station, technologist, or storage area.
• Basic instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
• Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Job description

Work Schedule

100% FTE, day shift. Scheduled hours are Monday through Friday with start times ranging from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM and end times ranging from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Pay

• This position may be eligible for a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

Work Experience

• Six months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry role (Required)
• One year healthcare or lab related work experience (Preferred)
• Completion of accredited phlebotomy training program and clinical rotation (Preferred)

  Licenses & Certifications

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent (Preferred)
