Job summary

University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority seeks a Specimen Control and Receiving Technician for Support Services (Finance). This 4-hour shift role (4pm–8pm, 4 days a week with some Saturdays) involves receiving specimens, verifying labels, entering tests in the LIS, and routing materials to the proper station.

Interact with pathologists, physicians, and clinical staff daily. Required is a high school diploma; healthcare-related coursework is preferred and MLA certification is

  • MLA certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check labeling, enter tests into LIS, process specimens, and load them onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station, technologist, or storage area.
  • Basic instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Work Schedule

20% FTE, working 4 hour shifts 4pm-8pm Monday thru Friday with some Saturdays 9am-1pm. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Pay
  • This position may be eligible for a $500 sign-on bonus

We are seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Tech - Support Services

  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check for correct labeling, enter tests into Laboratory Information System, process specimens, and load them onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station, technologist, or storage area.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent Required

Some post-secondary education in a healthcare or a related science field that may include course work in Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician or Medical Laboratory Scientist degree/certification Preferred

Work Experience

6 months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry role Required

1 year healthcare or lab related work experience Preferred

Licenses & Certifications

Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent Preferred
