Job summary

UW Health in Madison, Wisconsin is seeking a Senior Histology Technician – Surgical Pathology to provide daily direction to laboratory staff and ensure timely, accurate patient diagnostics.

The role encompasses testing, expert medical interpretation of specimens, and development of teaching materials while coordinating workflow to deliver quality results within clinically useful timeframes.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology with 60 semester hours including 24 in medical laboratory technology or science courses
• Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science

Responsibilities

• Provide daily direction to laboratory staff regarding policies and procedures and serve as the dedicated resource for procedures, equipment and education
• Serve as a comprehensive provider of laboratory testing, expert medical interpretation of specimens and innovation in laboratory technology
• Develop and maintain teaching/training materials
• Coordinate workflow throughout the laboratory to ensure quality results are reported in a clinically useful time frame

Work Schedule

100% FTE, day shift. Monday through Friday 7:30AM – 4:00PM with rotating on-call weekends. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Pay

• This position may be eligible for a $4,000 sign-on bonus.
• Additional components of compensation may include:
  • Evening and night shift differential
  • Weekend differential
  • On-call pay

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology OR Education and training equivalent to an associate degree to include: Education: 60 semester hours including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses Required
• Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science

Preferred

Work Experience

• 2 years histology or relevant laboratory experience. Required
• 3 years histology or relevant laboratory experience Preferred

Licenses & Certifications

• Histotechnician / Histotechnologist (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent Preferred
