Job summary

UW Health in Madison, WI is seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Tech – Cytology for a 100% FTE day shift. Responsibilities include receiving specimens, entering tests into the LIS, basic instrument maintenance, and clerical tasks.

Daily collaboration with pathologists, physicians, technologists, and clinical staff is required. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and 6 months of lab/healthcare experience; post-secondary healthcare coursework is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory and enter tests into LIS.

  • Perform basic instrument maintenance and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing, and patients.

Work Schedule

100% FTE, day shift. Monday through Friday 8:30AM – 5:00PM. No weekends or holidays. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Pay
  • This position may be eligible for a $2,500 sign‑on bonus.
  • Additional components of compensation may include:

We are seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Tech – Cytology to:

  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check for correct labeling, enter tests into Laboratory Information System, process specimens, and load them onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station, technologist, or storage area.
  • Basic instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • Some post‑secondary education in a healthcare or a related science field that may include coursework in Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician or Medical Laboratory Scientist degree/certification Preferred
Work Experience
  • 6 months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry role Required
  • 1 year healthcare or lab related work experience Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent Preferred
