Job summary

UW Health in Madison is seeking a laboratory support professional to receive specimens, enter tests in the Laboratory Information System, process samples, and prepare them for loading onto instruments.

The role involves basic instrument maintenance, clerical duties, and daily interaction with pathologists, physicians, technologists, and nursing staff. Requires high school diploma; some post-secondary healthcare coursework preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some post-secondary education in a healthcare or related science field preferred.
  • MLA certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check labeling, enter tests into LIS, process specimens, and load onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station.
  • Perform basic instrument maintenance and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Work Schedule

100% FTE, day shift. Monday through Friday 8:30AM - 5:00PM. No weekends or holidays. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Pay
  • This position may be eligible for a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

  • Basic instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • Some post-secondary education in a healthcare or a related science field that may include course work in Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician or Medical Laboratory Scientist degree/certification Preferred
Work Experience
  • 6 months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry role Required
  • 1 year healthcare or lab related work experience Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent Preferred
