Job summary

UW Health in Madison, WI is seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Tech - Clinical Labs to join your team. You will receive specimens and research kits, verify labeling, and enter tests into the Laboratory Information System while routing materials to the appropriate work station.

The role includes basic instrument maintenance, clerical tasks, and daily interaction with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing teams and patients.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Post-secondary healthcare or related science coursework preferred.
  • Six months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry (Required).
  • One year healthcare or lab related work experience preferred.
  • Completion of accredited phlebotomy training program and clinical rotation preferred.
  • MLA certification (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check for correct labeling, enter tests into Laboratory Information System, process specimens, and direct to appropriate work station.
  • Basic instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Work Schedule

100% FTE, day shift. Scheduled hours are Monday through Friday with start times ranging from 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM and end times ranging from 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Pay
  • This position may be eligible for a $2,500 sign‑on bonus.

Qualifications

  • Some post‑secondary education in a healthcare or a related science field that may include coursework in Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician or Medical Laboratory Scientist degree/certification (Preferred)
Work Experience
  • Six months experience in lab, healthcare, customer service or data entry role (Required)
  • One year healthcare or lab related work experience (Preferred)
  • Completion of accredited phlebotomy training program and clinical rotation (Preferred)
Licenses & Certifications
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent (Preferred)
