Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Des Moines, IA seeks a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join the cardiology team at Methodist Downtown. The role focuses on patient-centered cardiovascular care, triage, care coordination, and family support.

You will work with cardiologists and clinical staff in a collaborative environment, with a Monday–Friday schedule, and full-time benefits as part of our Total Rewards program.

Qualifications

• RN license active and in-state or compact license.
• ADN required; BSN preferred.
• All RN levels considered.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate incoming patient phone calls to determine urgency of cardiac-related symptoms and appropriate next steps.
• Provide telephone triage for symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness, edema, or blood pressure concerns, and guide patients to the appropriate level of care or follow-up.
• Assist in coordinating urgent and emergent care for patients with acute or worsening cardiovascular conditions (e.g., chest pain, heart failure exacerbation, arrhythmias, syncope).
• Communicate efficiently with cardiologists and clinical team members to ensure timely and effective care.
• Educate patients and caregivers on cardiovascular conditions, treatment plans, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
• Offer ongoing support and resources tailored to each patient’s needs, including symptom monitoring and when to seek urgent care.
• Accurately document all patient interactions, assessments, and care plans using the electronic health record (EHR).
• Track patient outcomes and coordinate follow-up care, diagnostic testing, and referrals to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) – Active/Unencumbered RN license in state of practice or compact license including state of practice.
• All levels of RN experience will be considered. Prior experience in cardiology or specialty care is a plus, but not required
• AAssociate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing
