The position is with the FLEET DEPARTMENT located in RANKIN COUNTY, MS, and is seeking a highly skilled and dependable Specialized Trades Worker II to support the agency's critical fleet and equipment operations. This position plays an essential role in keeping DPS-owned vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, operational, and mission-ready for the personnel who depend on them every day. The incumbent will perform skilled maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a diverse fleet of DPS vehicles and specialized equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs skilled mechanical, electrical, and preventative maintenance on DPS-owned vehicles, equipment, and related systems.
• Conducts routine inspections to identify safety concerns, mechanical deficiencies, electrical problems, and potential equipment failures before they affect operations.
• Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other equipment-related problems using appropriate diagnostic tools, testing equipment, service manuals, and technical resources.
• Performs repairs, adjustments, replacements, and component installations to restore vehicles and equipment to safe and reliable operating condition.
• Performs scheduled preventative maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, fluid and filter changes, brake inspections, battery and electrical system checks, and other manufacturer-recommended services.
• Maintains and repairs agency vehicles and specialized equipment used by law enforcement and public safety personnel.
• Troubleshoots complex mechanical and electrical issues and determines the most effective and cost-efficient method of repair.
• Uses computerized diagnostic equipment and other specialized tools to identify system failures and verify completed repairs.
• Maintains accurate service, inspection, repair, parts, and maintenance records for assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Documents work performed, parts used, diagnostic findings, and recommendations for future maintenance.
• Ensures maintenance and repair activities comply with DPS policies, state requirements, applicable safety standards, and manufacturer specifications.
• Conducts post-repair inspections and operational tests to ensure vehicles and equipment are safe and fully functional before returning them to service.
• Identifies vehicles or equipment requiring major repairs, specialized service, or replacement and communicates recommendations to supervisors.
• Assists with maintaining an accurate inventory of parts, tools, supplies, and specialized maintenance equipment.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area and properly operates and maintains shop equipment and tools.
• Assists with emergency or priority repairs when necessary to minimize operational downtime.
• Provides technical assistance and guidance to agency personnel regarding vehicle and equipment maintenance and operational concerns.
• May assist with fleet inspections, vehicle readiness programs, equipment deployment, and special maintenance projects.
• Stays current on evolving vehicle technologies, diagnostic procedures, electrical systems, and manufacturer maintenance requirements.
