Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Academy is seeking a Teacher, Specialized Behavior Support (SBS) to join the instructional team. Under moderate supervision, you will deliver IEP-aligned instruction, develop lesson plans, and guide group and individual learning for students with special needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Valid, or renewing, NC Teaching license in assigned area required.
• Equivalent combination of experience and education.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Collaborate with administration and other educators to create the most complete educational environment for EC students.
• Follow established school procedures for crisis or emergency situations.
• Administer and interpret individual educational testing.
• Utilize data to ascertain progress towards academic and behavioral/emotional goals.
• Establish clear objectives for all academic and pro-social skills lessons and design instruction to support students.
• Modify curriculum/instruction to meet needs documented on IEPs.
• Use strategies which promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking.
• Observe and assess students' performance and behavior regularly.
• Develop, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess progress.
• Collect data to document progress on IEP goals.
• Structure a proactive classroom to address behavioral needs.
• Instruct students in positive behavioral skills and environmental management.
• Utilize FBA and analysis to identify function of behavior and create BIPs/IEPs.
• Meet with parents to discuss progress and resources needed.
• Maintain accurate records per laws and district policy.
• Provide care and instruction in self-help skills as needed.
• Participate in professional development and meetings.
• Create an inclusive environment with positive communication.
