Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Registration Specialist – Primary Care (Onsite) for the IU Health West Hospital, to support patient flow from arrival through departure with accurate registration, scheduling, insurance verification and communication with patients and care teams.

This on-site role requires strong customer service, proficiency with multiple systems, and the ability to start between 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Ability to learn ICD-10/CPT concepts.
  • Ability to interpret insurance information.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical practices preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients with check-in and check-out.
  • Schedule appointments and manage clinic workflows.
  • Work insurance and demographic queues to ensure accurate records.
  • Answer incoming calls and route patients and visitors appropriately.
  • Collect and validate patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Explain department policies, charges, and payment expectations.
  • Enter information accurately to support reimbursement and clinical outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, nursing teams, MAs, and managers.
  • Support primary care clinic operations with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Requires the ability to take initiative and meet objectives.
  • Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.

Position Overview

The Registration Specialist supports primary care operations by providing exceptional customer service and facilitating patient flow from arrival through departure. This role ensures accurate patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and communication while working closely with patients, providers, nursing staff, MAs, and clinic leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet and assist patients with check ‑ in and check ‑ out
  • Schedule appointments and manage clinic workflows
  • Work insurance and demographic queues to ensure accurate records
  • Answer incoming calls and route patients and visitors appropriately

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Location: IU Health West Hospital – Primary Care
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 ‑ hour shift
