Job summary

Prosper ISD seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide learning activities and experiences designed to help students reach their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons to match student ability levels in self-contained, team, or itinerant settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with SPED endorsements for assignments.
• Knowledge of ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting and implementation.
• Knowledge of ABA strategies preferred.
• Ability to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs.
• Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through ARD for each student.
• Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs with prepared materials.
• Assess student learning styles and plan appropriate instructional strategies and materials.
• Present subject matter to meet IEP guidelines using varied media and technology.
• Work with regular teachers to modify curricula and assist students in regular classes.
• Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly.
• Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional media.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
• Provide or supervise personal and medical care as stated in IEP.
• Supervise extracurricular activities as assigned by campus principal.
• Consult district/resource personnel regarding education and student needs.
• Create a learning environment conducive to development.
• Manage student behavior per IEP; intervene in crises and restraints.
• Coordinate with teachers on behavior management per IEP.
• Protect students, equipment, and facilities; ensure safety.
• Plan and supervise teacher aides and volunteers.
• Establish and maintain open communication with parents and staff.
• Maintain professional relationships with students and colleagues.
• Engage in staff development to improve skills.
• Comply with regulations and policies for special education.
• Maintain required reports, records, and documents.
• Attend faculty meetings and participate in committees.
