Job summary

Prosper ISD seeks a dedicated Special Education teacher to provide learning activities and support for students with special needs across self-contained, team, or itinerant assignments.

You will adapt curricula, prepare lessons, and collaborate with ARD committees to set and implement IEP goals, ensuring appropriate instructional strategies and safety. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for success.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEP through ARD for each student.
• Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs with evidence of prep.
• Assess student learning styles and plan appropriate instruction and materials.
• Present content according to IEP guidelines using varied techniques and media.
• Assist regular classes by modifying curricula for special education students.
• Participate in ARD meetings regularly.
• Contribute to selection of books and instructional media.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement using formal and informal tests.
• Provide or supervise personal/medical care and feeding as stated in IEP.
• Sponsor extracurricular activities with campus approval.
• Consult district and outside resources regarding student needs.
• Create classroom environment conducive to learning and development.
• Manage student behavior and apply discipline per IEP, including crisis interventions.
• Consult with teachers on behavior management per IEP.
• Protect students and school property; ensure safety protocols.
• Plan and supervise work of aides and volunteers.
• Establish open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
• Maintain professional relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
• Participate in staff development to improve job skills.
• Keep compliant with laws and district policies for special education.
• Compile and file required reports and records.
• Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees.
