Job summary

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is seeking a Special Education Teacher to lead instructional processes for Elementary School students with IEPs in an alternative education setting in Sterling, IL. The role involves designing dynamic, personalized learning experiences, utilizing educational software, and creating comprehensive lesson plans aligned to standards and student needs.

The position requires IL professional educator licensure (PEL) and SSE/LBS1 credentials, plus

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or a closely related field.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educator (PEL) credential.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state SSE or LBS1 credential.
• Ability to obtain and maintain crisis management training certification.
• Experience with curriculum development and differentiation in alternative/special education settings.
• Strong knowledge of IEPs and special education compliance.

Responsibilities

• Create an inclusive, collaborative classroom environment involving students, parents, colleagues, and admins.
• Establish a respectful classroom climate with PBIS and positive group interactions.
• Implement PBIS strategies, rewards, and appropriate consequences.
• Track student progress and generate reports on achievements and activities.
• Deliver differentiated instruction individually or in co-teaching to meet IEP goals.
• Adapt curricula to diverse learning styles and guide staff on differentiation methods.
• Use varied instructional methods and software to support diverse needs.
• Manage caseloads with IEP goals and interventions.
• Prepare detailed daily lesson plans aligned with standards and objectives.
• Maintain safe, organized classroom environment and resources.
• Stay informed on research-based practices in special education.
• Respond to feedback and pursue ongoing professional growth.
• Support school-wide activities and duties as needed.
