Job summary

Frederick County Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Instructional Assistant for Specialized Programs to support students with special needs under the direction of licensed teachers and administrators. The role includes implementing IEPs, assisting with daily activities, and providing physical and/or personal care as required.

The position is 11 months, 208 days per year, with 7 hours daily. A waiver position with potential involuntary transfer for 2027-2028 is noted in the posting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–3 years’ experience with students with moderate to severe behavioral/communication needs.
• CPR/First Aid training within first year of hire.
• District-approved Crisis Prevention training within first year of hire.
• Registered Behavior Technician training within first year of hire.
• Willingness to participate in professional development.
• Regular and predictable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Assist students under direction of a certificated FCPS staff.
• Communicate and document student progress.
• Set up and adapt materials and equipment for students.
• Help students progress toward independence.
• Monitor and assist students during activities.
• Assist with personal care not requiring a nurse.
• Help meet IEP goals and objectives.
• Assist with emergency action or health care plans as needed.
• Support students with mobility and self-care tasks as required.
