Job summary

IDEA Public Schools seeks a Special Education Co-Teacher to support students with significant cognitive and developmental disabilities in K-12 settings. The role focuses on a functional curriculum and daily living/vocational skills within a small student-teacher ratio.

Qualifications

• Education: At least 48 college hours required.
• Experience with cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities strongly preferred.
• Willingness to pursue Special Education certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under direction and guidance of teachers.
• Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans and monitor progress.
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable full participation in activities.
• Work with professionals such as speech therapists, social workers, and therapists.
• Maintain student records with classroom teachers.
• Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and teach social skills.
• Assist with daily living activities as needed in Life Skills Unit.
• Occasionally accompany students on school bus routes before or after school.
