Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Co-Teacher to support students with significant cognitive and developmental disabilities within the RISE program. The role focuses on functional curricula and daily living/ Vocational skills, in a low student-teacher ratio setting (often 1 to 3), within K-5 or 6-12 campuses.

The position emphasizes collaboration with teachers, therapists, and families to promote independence and inclusion in general education activities.

Qualifications

• Education: at least 48 college hours required.
• Experience: experience with cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities preferred.
• Willingness to pursue Special Education teaching certification.
• ISECP provides pathway to certification for IDEA staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under supervision.
• Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans and monitor progress.
• Provide support for individual students inside/outside the classroom to enable participation.
• Collaborate with speech therapists, social workers, and therapists.
• Help maintain student records and progress notes.
• Support students with emotional/behavioral needs and develop social skills.
• Daily living assistance may include feeding, lifting, toileting in Life Skills Unit.
• Transport with students on some campuses may be required.
