Job summary

Norman Public Schools in Oklahoma is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to assist with instruction and supervise students in classrooms and on school grounds. You will support teachers, prepare materials, and help with behavior management under guidance.

Requirements include Tier 1 paraprofessional qualifications, high school diploma or GED, and ability to complete the OSBI background check. This is a 175-day contract with non-exempt status and a Teacher's Assistant salary schedule.

Qualifications

• Must meet Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.
• Previous work or volunteer experience with children preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• OSBI background check required every five years.

Responsibilities

• Assist with instruction and activities for individuals or groups as assigned by the teacher.
• Supervise students in instructional settings, off-campus activities, and non-instructional activities (recess, assemblies, drills, lunch periods).
• Supervise students in the teacher's absence.
• Prepare or adapt instructional materials and teaching aids as directed.
• Assist students with assignments and setup of instructional equipment.
• Serve as main contact for substitute teachers.
• Assist with student behavior management and respond to needs.
• Note special needs to the teacher and provide assistance as needed.
• Provide basic support including feeding assistance or personal care as required.
