Job summary

Gwinnett County Public Schools seeks a dedicated paraprofessional educator to support instructional programs and assist in supervising and caring for special needs students in regular and special education settings. You will help implement IEP plans, monitor behavior, and communicate with school personnel.

Requirements include a Georgia PSC paraprofessional certificate, a high school diploma or GED, and eligibility assessments or 60/90 credit hours from PSC-approved colleges.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional Educator certificate issued by the Georgia PSC (PSC Required)
• HS Diploma or GED and passed the Praxis Parapro Assessment or the GACE Parapro Assessment
• In lieu of assessments, 60 semester or 90 qtr hours from a PSC approved college or university

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom for special needs students in regular and special education settings
• Assist in supervising care and instruction and attend IEP meetings
• Adapt activities and materials to reinforce IEP goals and provide participation opportunities
• Administer immediate first aid and basic medical assistance as instructed
• Administer tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers
• Assist medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene
• Assist students with grooming and daily living activities to support independence
• Confer with teachers on evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives
• Monitor student progress data under teacher guidance and behavioral plans
• Maintain records and support functions including data collection and attendance
• Provide instruction in small groups and assist with various subject areas
• Respond to emergencies to ensure safety and apply de-escalation techniques
• Assist with crisis intervention procedures and monitoring duties as assigned
