Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Paraeducator/Teacher Assistant in Special Education to support students with disabilities in various classroom settings. The role requires lifting up to 40 pounds and collaboration with staff to implement behavioral management and instructional activities.

Starting 8/31/26, the position falls under a full-time, 184 days/6.5 hours per day schedule, with wages depending on education level and K-12 experience. Insurance benefits apply for positions of 6 hours or more per day.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; PCA certification to be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Completed 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits, or an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or have passed the ParaEducator or ParaPro exam.
• Good communications, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills.
• Ability to work with technology and computers; cooperate with students and staff; supervise students; take direction; maintain regular attendance.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds; perform duties including toileting, feeding and self-care procedures as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center base settings.
• Manage behavior by redirecting or removing disruptive students from the classroom.
• Monitor and record student progress in academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.
• Assist with physical needs and mobility as required (toileting, feeding, lifting, positioning, etc.).
