Job summary

Minnetonka Public Schools in Excelsior is seeking a Paraprofessional/Special Education Para to support individual and small groups in both regular and SPED classrooms. The role involves assisting with instruction, self-care tasks, and use of assistive devices, under supervision of licensed staff.

Candidates should meet MDE 'highly qualified' standards on day one, complete the Personal Care Assistant Training, and demonstrate experience with behavior strategies and data recording.

Qualifications

• Must meet highly qualified status as defined by the MDE on day 1.
• Certification test through the Minnesota Department of Human Services (PCA) completed as part of pre-employment.
• Experience supporting student instruction in the classroom preferred.
• Knowledge of behavior modification strategies including restitution and resiliency.
• Training, knowledge and application of CPI strategies, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support, modify, adjust and monitor instruction for SPED students in 1:1 or small groups.
• Assist with self-care tasks (feeding, dressing, toileting); lifting may be required.
• Operate and supervise wheelchair and assistive devices; ensure safe use.
• Apply student management techniques to prevent self-destructive behaviors.
• Participate in IEP and school meetings as requested.
• Record observations, maintain logs, and monitor attendance.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
• Participate in training on third-party reimbursement and related tasks.
