Job summary

Wake County Public School System in Raleigh, North Carolina, is looking for a Special Education Assistant to provide support in coordinating instructional programs for special education students. The role involves ensuring a safe, encouraging learning environment and assisting teachers with behavioral intervention strategies.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, working towards an Associate’s degree or Child Development Associate credential. Experience working with special needs individuals is required, along with CPI certification.

Qualifications

• Must have experience working with special needs individuals.
• High school diploma or GED and working toward an applicable Associate's degree or CDA credential.
• Must have First Aid and CPR certifications (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Support and assist teachers in special education instructional programs.
• Implement strategies related to students’ behavioral intervention plans.
• Ensure safety and well-being of all students.

Skills

Working knowledge of successful instructional delivery methods

Ability to protect confidentiality under FERPA

Ability to motivate students

Ability to supervise the safety and well-being of students

Effective communication techniques

Education

High school diploma or GED, working toward an Associate's degree in early childhood education

Six documented semester hours in early childhood education or two years work experience

Tools

Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification
