Job summary

Wake County Public School System in North Carolina is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support teachers with students who have IEPs and to help maintain a safe, positive learning environment.

The role includes collaborating with staff, facilitating instructional activities, and assisting with health care needs in the classroom. Requires a high school diploma or GED, with ESSA-related coursework or experience in early childhood settings preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six semester hours in early childhood education (for ESSA Title I schools) or two years of work in early childhood setting.
• Maintain CPI certification (training provided by WCPSS) and CPI renewal compliance.
• Preferred: CPR and First Aid certification.
• Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with coordinating instructional programs for students with IEPs.
• Implement strategies related to behavioral intervention plans.
• Prepare materials and organize classroom activities.
• Monitor student safety and confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.
• Support transitions between classes and assist with health care needs as needed.
• Coordinate and document reports and required records.
