Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant specialized in Special Education to support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for students with IEPs. The role includes implementing behavioral strategies, organizing materials, and maintaining a safe, confidential learning environment.

The position involves assisting with low- and high-tech assistive devices, documenting records, and supporting student transitions while promoting independence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ESSA Title I schools require additional coursework or experience (six semester hours in early childhood education or two years of related work).
• Maintain CPI certification and renewal as part of duties; CPI training provided by WCPSS if needed.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for students with IEPs.
• Assist with strategies for implementing behavioral intervention plans.
• Aid planning, organizing, and preparing instructional materials.
• Support classroom procedures and promote student independence.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct; collaborate with staff, students, and families.
• Assist with transitions, health-related needs, and use of assistive technologies to meet student needs.
