Special Education High Needs/Resource Teacher

Join to apply for the Special Education High Needs/Resource Teacher role at South Washington County Schools.

Position: Special Education High Needs/Resource Teacher
FTE: 1.0
Location: Cottage Grove Middle School
Compensation: BA/00 starting salary is $52,679/year, MA/00 starting salary is $61,898/year. Salary schedule based on Teacher contract, previous teaching experience, and education.
Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2025
License Requirement: Current Minnesota Teaching License in Special Education. Desired: K-12 ABS, K-12 EBD, Multiple Licenses.

Position Summary:

Provide academic and goal-based learning experiences that enhance student progress across all settings.

Primary Job Functions:
  • Contribute to and participate in building student support teams.
  • Serve as an IEP/IFSP case manager.
  • Work as a team member in staffings; facilitate team meetings to review student progress and develop IEP/IFSP as related to student needs.
  • Plan and implement appropriate educational programs for individuals.
  • Implement educational plans as described on individual IEP/IFSP and provide information for building staff as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports, collect data on progress, and meet all required timelines.
  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate transition experiences for students, if applicable.
  • Provide work direction to paraprofessional staff members.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, educators, and administrators regarding student programs and progress.
  • Collaborate with students, families, related service providers, outside agencies, and team members to promote student growth.
  • Work cooperatively with general education teachers and staff, providing support and training as needed.
  • Create and maintain professional relationships with families and staff.
  • Obtain and demonstrate knowledge of general education curriculum, grade level outcomes, and state standards.
  • Conduct assessments, report results, and follow Minnesota state criteria and timelines.
  • Determine and complete purchase orders for supplies based on student needs.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries with students, families, and staff.
  • Perform all other duties as directed by the Director of Special Services and/or Building Principal.
Job Specifications:
  • Current Minnesota licensure in two special education areas or ability to achieve prior to obtaining continuing contract status (one license area required for early childhood).
  • Ability to travel between sites as needed.
  • Prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to perform routine computer functions, including email, Microsoft Word, and due process systems.
  • Positive and responsive communication with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community.
  • Appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
