Job summary: Assist the classroom teacher with instructional tasks, working directly and indirectly with K-5 students. These tasks will constitute the major portion of the Educational Support Professional time.

Responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Work one to one and with small groups of students receiving special education services.
  • Assist in general classroom operational procedures such as setting up and operating audiovisual equipment, preparing and setting up art supplies, and physical education equipment.
  • Work directly with students individually or in small groups on academic, motor, or social skills, e.g., math, science, English, color recognition, decision making, self-esteem building, etc.
  • Assist students and teachers in large group activities/projects such as art, physical education, and dramatics.
  • Seek out special instructional materials to assist with students having particular learning problems, e.g., separate math skill worksheets not part of the teacher's curriculum.
  • Type worksheets, tests, or various instructional materials; duplicate and assemble.
  • Correct tests via computer and record results in grade books.
  • Includes lunch and recess supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by principal or designee.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with students.
  • Computer and word processing experience helpful.
  • Applicants meet the Highly Qualified requirement if they have:
    • Two years of study at an institution of higher education; Minnesota’s standard; a minimum of 60 semester credits or the amount required to complete two years of full-time enrollment as determined by the institution attended OR
    • An Associate’s (or higher) degree; Minnesota’s standard: an AA, AS, AAS, (or higher) degree OR
    • Received a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
  • District will pay for the exam and up to 10 hours of prep and exam time.

Work schedule: 5 days/week; 5 hours/day Special Ed; 1 hour/day Clerical; 30 hours/week.
