Job summary

IDEA Public Schools seeks a Special Education Co-Teacher to gain experience in a setting focused on functional curricula and daily living skills. The role supports students with significant disabilities in classrooms with low student-teacher ratios, often 1 to 3, across K-12 levels.

Qualifications

• Education: At least 48 college hours required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience: Experience with cognitive/developmental disabilities preferred.
• Licenses: Willingness to pursue Special Education certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under supervision.
• Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans and monitor progress.
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside of the classroom to participate in activities.
• Work with speech therapists, social workers, and therapists to support students.
• Assist teachers with maintaining student records.
• Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and develop social skills.
• Assist with daily living activities as needed in Life Skills Unit.
• Occasionally accompany students on bus routes before or after school.
