Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with disabilities under the supervision of a Special Education teacher. You will reinforce instructional concepts, provide one-on-one tutoring, and assist with daily living skills to promote independence.

The role requires a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or eligible 60 college credits, CPR training, and strong English skills.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional license from ISBE or eligibility via 60 college credits.
• Knowledge of characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and complete basic written reports.
• CPR training evidence or training will be completed as a condition of employment.
• Strong English grammar and spelling skills.
• Ability to work with students ages birth to 21 years.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of students with disabilities per IEP.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene support.
• Position non-ambulatory students and use assistive devices.
• Maintain written behavior records and support class activities.
• Support daily living skills and accompany students on outings.
