Job summary

Sylvania in Fredericksburg, VA is seeking an instructional aide to support students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom. You will assist in implementing classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional activities under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, maintaining an orderly room, assisting with records, supervising students during the day, and helping with safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Associate degree or two years of college.
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Some experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist teacher with administrative records and required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with disabilities incl. transfers, personal care, and positioning.
• Help supervise students during lunch, bus, and playground.
