Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Teacher for the Breathe Program at King Middle School. The Special Education Teacher / Case Manager works with Breathe Program students in both mainstream and special education settings, collaborating with the Breathe Program Social Worker and BCBA to determine optimal programming and ensure IEP goals are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university.
• Portland Public Schools values linguistic diversity; candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity.
• Maine Endorsements 282 or 286 and CHRC authorization are preferred or required.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based specially designed instruction to students with IEPs to meet district benchmarks.
• Serve as case manager for each student, overseeing IEPs and conducting IEP meetings.
• Ensure compliance with Maine regulations for IEP development and timelines.
• Maintain accurate records as required by law, PPS policy, and administrative regulation.
• Collaborate with the Program Social Worker, BCBA, school principals, and related service providers.
• Coordinate with regular education teachers on accommodations and modifications; support mainstream classroom work.
• Administer academic achievement assessments for initial referrals and triennial reviews.
• Develop pathways to support student progress toward meeting academic standards.
